What is VOID?

EnterVOID.com is a long-standing, reputable comic art and battleground site in which artists can:

-Create their own unique character(s) and let them run loose in the world of VOID.

-Participate in one-on-one, group, and themed comic battles.

-Give and receive helpful critiques to improve artwork and writing.

-Meet and network with other artists of all levels of profession.

Right now, we're hosting the 2012 Void Invitational Tournament. If you don't know that is or even what Void is, it means that you come in with an original character of yours and you 'battle' other artists. You'll draw a comic of each character interacting in some way, whether through an actual battle or perhaps something less violent. If you're familiar with the Speed Death Tournament on Void, it's a lot like that, except if you lose, your character is not dead afterwards. You'll be able to keep on participating and enjoying Entervoid.com.

This tournament promises to be a lot of fun and you can be sure that even if you lose, you're going to be a part of a really terrific artist community. If you have any questions, you can voice them here [link] (which coincidentally is also where you can sign up.) We're also more than happy to see people show up in The Official Entervoid Chatroom right here on deviantart. [link] We're more than happy to see new faces show up in the chat. So don't be shy and come on in! And if you can't join the site but know someone who can, let them know about it! Spread the word!

Once again,

----------------------------------------------

I've been with the community for over 5 years and it was the one thing that really inspired me to do comics again. It's an excellent place to hone your skills and make connections with some very awesome people. You don't have to be pro tier to do this Invitational either; EVERYONE WITH ANY SKILL LEVEL IS INVITED. SO PLEASE GET TO IT!
  :star-empty: NEWS :star-empty:

Here we go. We're gonna do this again.  I hope no one really believed that I was going to keep these down 'permanently' because we all know I'm a glutton for punishment eh?

I'm opening them up again because I no longer have a second job, and my seasonal one is about to conclude.
Also I will only be offering up digital commissions only because it's faster, it's a lot more inexpensive for the commissioner, and I'm lacking some tools for doing proper traditional commissions right now. (Unless you want to pay a high price for an acrylic painting. Not that I COULD complain haha!)

So yeah, be sure to check out the commission info + menu below. There will be linked examples coming pretty soon.

  :star-empty: NEWS :star-empty:

So welcome to 2012 everybody. Hope everyone got their drink on in a responsible manner!

I can't say I was a big fan of 2011. There were more sour moments than sweet ones, and I don't want to go flaunting the idea that this year will be any better. I still have goals to pursue but no promises to keep!

So here's what's happening;

1. I'm going to take a long hiatus from EnterVOID for awhile. Let's just say my interest has been put under comatose and replaced with other projects. This means I won't be submitting anything for the anthology either. Not a big deal, and I'm sure I'll get my motivation back. Right now I'm simply burnt out.

2. Gorge is back! Yuki's computer took a dive and we had to wait for a couple weeks for her to get settled, but now we're back to updating every Sunday.

3. I'm starting back on AlienDrugged, but things are looking grim in the quality department . I'm not happy with it, but at the same time I can't allow myself to start over from scratch. I'll be updating every Saturday but again, I can't guarantee it'll be up to snuff. I just really REAAALLY hate the direction it's been taking. Chapter 1 has been an odd cluster fuck and it needs to end so i can move on to the more interesting parts of the story.

4. Commissions. I said I'd give up on advertising them here, but since I'm going to be let go from my seasonal job soon, I'll need all the help I can get. Sad thing is, I'm at a crossroads on how I want to price things. I like keeping it simple, but then I have so many different mediums I  can use, not to mention I notice people charging depending on theme or style like 'SD/Chibi' or 'full body' or 'bust size'.
If I re-open this, I may end up dumbing down my price range to a point where I'll get bitched at for under-charging. Well, what can I do?

Anyways, that's it for now. I'll be posting a new commission list in maybe an hour or so.

See ya!

  :star-empty: NEWS :star-empty:

I'm very sorry to say this but I will not be doing a public sign up for cards this time around.
I apologize to those hoping for an open list, but with so many things eating away at my free time I just can't get myself to do it.
Reasons for this; I am working two different jobs, I have two comics to tend to (one of which I'll be discussing in a moment here.) and wrapping up my second to last semester here at this school.

For those getting a card, I will be mailing them the week of December 12th.

So this year is coming to a close, and I already have a few plans in the making for 2012.

First off, :iconcafe-star: and I are working on some stuff to promote our webcomic GORGE. I cannot confirm anything directly, but let's just say April is going to be an exciting month for this project if all goes well. ;)

I am also going to try and make time for EnterVOID's anthology book! The submissions are due March, but I'm still unsure if I'll have any extra time or not because of the big preparations for GORGE.

Lastly, I might consider re-opening commissions. I know very few people knew I offered them or weren't able to afford them, but with needing extra funds I might give it one more resurrection.

I felt I had more to discuss but that's all I suppose!

This year was a pretty bad one, I'm hoping next year will be full of happier memories and less...well...you know.

  • Mood: Neutral
  :star-empty: NEWS :star-empty:

Hey gang, remember awhile back I did this thing during December where I mailed off a bunch of holiday cards and I included a small sticker or an Artist Trading Card inside? Well it's October, so that means it's time to buckle down and do some planning again!

Last year I didn't do a public card send out because in 2009, I had a huge list of people I wanted to do cards for, but because I cornered myself in a shitty living situation, I had no money or time to send out all of the cards. This discouraged me from pursuing the yearly tradition like I normally do.
But hell, it's a lesson learned, and I'm going to play it smart from now on.

So here's the deal;

I will be splitting the card send outs into two groups;

First, I am going to ask the few friends that barely post on DA if they would be interested in a card plus whatever speshul prize I will be carrying out this year.

Second, after that is all set and done, I will create an open list here on DA. The open list is basically the same set-up I've had over the previous years. There will be a set of rules, the person interested will throw me an e-mail, and I will make a public list of the people that are waiting for a card.

I am doing it this way not only so I won't end up screwing people out of a nice gesture, but because my free time will be restrained more than the last two years. ( I'm working on two web comics, full-time school, plus my crappy new part-time job. )

NOTE: Depending on how many cards there will be in the first set, will also depend on how many slots I will have available in the open list.

Let's hope I can make it work this year!

  • Mood: Neutral
  :star-empty: NEWS :star-empty:

I decided to permanently close down commission offers here on DA. As much as I need the money, I know my 'skills' are not worth paying for. I don't post much on DA anymore since I've acquired a Tumblr account, so I know trying to pander commissions on here frequently doesn't help when I don't have many samples to begin with.

Thank you to all who have commissioned me in the past. It was a pleasure doing them when I still felt like I could be relied on.

Thank you everyone whom I've talked to about the Title trademark issue.  Yuki and I agreed that altering the title/subtitling does not seem necessary. Unless the author of the comic strip contacts us out of concern/with an official cease and desist letter, and establishes a major audience offline and online, we will not alter anything to the title of our comic.

In other news, I adjusted the commission price guide and commission rules. You can check them out in the paragraphs below.
I got slots open for commissions now and I got plenty of time to spare before school starts. If you're interested go ahead and note me here!

5. Refunds are given in special circumstances such as lost delivery or miscalculating personal funds. If there's ever a payment issue please contact me at my gmail account.
6. Original characters only! I got nothing against drawing Batman or Colonel Sanders, but I'm not sure what the legal stand is for selling artwork of previously copyrighted characters and I don't want to risk getting a lawsuit.

I was scoping the net to see if anyone else linked up or mentioned Gorge. I ended up coming across this: [link]

( We were trying to get this domain name in March, but at the time the domain was taken but no index page was posted yet. )

So apparently there's been a comic strip by the same name, and it's been around for quite some time. More information on the comic history can be seen here: [link]

There's mention of a copyright being issued, but the info is a bit vague as he mentions only a 'local' paper.

This leaves me very worried. I've looked around the net before we started this collaboration to make sure it wasn't a title taken, and I haven't seen mention of this comic until now. I'm afraid that if we had this comic published through Ka-Blam or some other independent source later we could be treading into infringement/lawsuit territory. At the same time, I'd hate for us to change the title since it's simple and fits with the story.

I went under copyright.gov to see what they had to say. They state that titles are not elligible for copyright protection according to this document: [link]

"Titles, names, short phrases, and slogans; familiar symbols
or designs; mere variations of typographic ornamentation,
lettering, or coloring; mere listings of ingredients
or contents"

So does that answer our own question? Or Should this be a major concern still? I don't want anyone getting screwed over because of a one word title.

So I've been debating for a long time whether or not it would be worth promoting the two comic projects I'm working on through an Anime convention.  Here in MI we have only one major Anime con, and that's Youmacon. It'll be from Nov 3rd-6th and held at the Marriott hotel in Detroit's Renaissance Center.
My problems with this is that it's 3 months away, and that would leave me very little time to print books and get the money together for this event.  Also...I don't like Detroit. I never drove down there on my own, but I can tell you I easily get panicked if I'm in a new area and their convoluted one way streets do not ease this at all. Not to mention the potential dangers and reputation it carries. ( Prove me wrong somebody. )

If anyone has done Youma over the last year or two, I'd like to know if it's worth the trouble getting a table or not.

Alien Drugged Chapter 1 volume 1 ( IN PROGRESS )

  • Mood: Neutral
  :star-empty: NEWS :star-empty:

Some of you may have heard of this comic I've been working on called Alien Drugged. You may have been around in 1998-1999 to see the first pages on my old Tripod account. You may have seen some of the sample pages I posted from a year ago before I deleted them.

If you don't have any remote clue what I'm talking about; I'll cut you an abridged explanation:

Alien Drugged ( Japanese alternative title " Uchyuujin Mayaku" ) is a comic I came up with in 1998 in Jr. High School. The concept is like a cross breed of Sailor Moon, Rocky horror Picture Show, and your typical sci-fi B movie.  It includes Chippendale Milk Men, A flaming outhouse with the charm of James Earl Jones, and transvestites with magical nipple ring powers.

I have made several ( failed ) attempts to bring this series into fruition. About 3 times between 98' and 99', another try in the early 2000's, and currently in 2009-2010. One of the biggest reasons for the constant re-set of my comic is because my style kept evolving, and I was never satisfied with the end result. As discouraged as I was I did not want to give up.  After re-working the story, including some new characters and additional chapters, I feel that I am ready to give it one more try.

I'll be posting preview snippets at my Tumblr account, which again you can see here! [link]

The official comic launch will be either August 6th or the 13th, depending on how much I get done first.
Until then, stay tuned!

If you are interested in a commissioning me, please read the following;

4. I reserve the right to turn down commissions for any given reason. ( This is very rare. Turn downs are usually towards rule #2. And not so nice guys. )

Once again DA's security is getting compromised by a bunch of assholes that have nothing better to do than to hijack personal information. There's a current virus going around where it is updating random DA journals with the tag line of " ROFL HAHAHA I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU WERE IN THIS PIC ![ link ]" Or something equivalent.

As you know, I am a man of excellent grammar. I have not received this virus yet, but if you do happen to see a journal entry with that tagline or similar DO NOT CLICK THE LINK. Your information and account will be compromised! If you get sucker punched into clicking the link, GET OUT OF THERE, CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD AND RUN A SCAN IMMEDIATELY.

The vista security spam virus was bad enough, I don't want a field day with this one and neither would you.

If you end up not being able to get your fan piece on time, just note me and tell me which one it was. There's a 90% chance I have it in my old art folders.

Don't forget I also have a tumblr account here [link] I've been posting exclusive artwork here that's besides my usual sketchings so be sure to check them out and follow along!

Since last week I was hit with two nasty malware viruses, incidentally cropped up whenever I was surfing through DeviantArt.
These perpetrators are Vista Total Care 2011 and Vista Internet Security 2011. Their behavior patterns are exactly the same; a pop-up window appears and warns the user that they are infected with tons of viruses, and will offer to get rid of them for you with their Internet security program. Despite whether you say cancel or no thanks, an admin shield will appear in your task bar, as well as a randomly named execute file in your windows task manager under the  processes tab.

This virus dishes out a plethora of annoying hell, from re-spawning execute files, blocking certain antivirus programs ( EVEN in safemode ), and forbidding you from surfing ANY websites. ( double-click is usually the culprit for this )

SO! How does one get rid of this crap? You'll have to do a multitude of scans and possibly weed wack through the registry, but this is how I did it with the help of a good family friend...

First I start task manager and go under processes. If you see any execute files that have jumbled letters like rhx.exe or jtt.exe, END THAT PROCESS IMMEDIATELY. That should make the admin shield in the task bar disappear.

Then I open up Avast! Anti Virus and update the program. I run a quick scan on the system ( full scan is usually recommended but quick scan usually does the job for me. )

Avast will prompt you to do a boot-time scan, but I skipped this step and did it last. ( dumb idea since boot-time scans are SUPER effective and kills off most trojans. ) But I recommend scheduling a boot-time scan and restarting.

Next I turn off my Wi-Fi ( I'm on a laptop so I just throw the switch on the front ) open up SpyBot Search and Destroy to sniff out the rest of the malware bits. Restart the computer.

That took care of the problems, but again it's important to get that boot-time scan in.

I hope that helps you guys, and I seriously hope DA can tighten the security reigns a bit. This is not a very fun trojan to catch, so remember to update your antiviruses early and often!

Alsothank you :iconjadelaunders: for addressing this issue first. Be sure to check out her journal entry regarding the issue too!
